Mixed Media

Today want wanted to share to mixed media canvas I made.  They were shared over on the Paper Crafter's Corner blog for the Creating Keepsakes Blog Hop.  Creating Keepsakes now has a mixed media issue and you can win one by going HERE.

Pinwheel Canvas created using The Paper Bakery Mixed Media Kit:

Background
First, I adhered some torn-out book pages to the blank canvas. Then I ‘painted’ over the pages with Gesso to make the background base. To add some depth & additional dimension, I then used a Studio Calico stencil and some Jenni Bowlin acrylic paint to add circles to the background.

Foreground
I made the pinwheels and the ‘sticks’ (which of course are just paper strips) out of Echo Park “Sweet Day” papers and adhered them with mod podge and let dry. I used the Amy Tangerine Sketchbook stamps and just stamped around the canvas. I also used a Jenni Bowlin rub-on that I cut up. And lastly I took an American Crafts Slick Writer marker and outlined each element.

Heart Canvas:
First I Mod Podged some favorite papers directly down to the canvas. Then I took some crape paper streamers from a birthday party and scrunched them around the outside, and mod podged them down as well. Then, I used some Gesso to “paint” over the papers and crape paper. To add more color around the edges, I added some Jenni Bowlin acrylic paint around the outside, using the built-in dauber.
To add EVEN more depth to the background, I added dark green acrylic paint using a Jenni Bowlin lettering stencil, and I added the bright yellow paint using a hexagon background stamp.

Foreground
Then I got started on the hearts! I cut-out the hearts from some Lily Bee papers and adhered them to my thoroughly inked & stamped canvas. I added some My Mind’s Eye chipboard pieces here & there.  I then painted around each of the elements, using acrylic paint again. And lastly I took my American Crafts Slick Writer pen (my favorite pen for doodling) and doodled around each item.
